August 24: Pre-Party
7:00 pm: "Pre-Party" with live music for fans and those registered for the Tanker Cruise. The Pre-Party was held at the Oh Gallagher's in Lakewood, Washington.
We had three local bands. One of the bands is Black Top Demons (a local original Rock band who really fit with the Mad Max theme). There was a costume contest for the 2 people who actually showed up in costume.
Vernon Wells "WEZ" (The Road Warrior, Commando, Weird Science, Last Man Standing, Circuitry Man I and II, etc.) was hanging out and was on hand for autographs.
August 25: Main Events
CAR SHOW (9:00 am - 5pm)Car Show for film replicas, inspired vehicles, muscle cars, motorcycles, gyrocopters and fans. Our "Film & TV Vehicles" Car Show was a small but central main attraction at the HUGE 30th Annual LeMay Museum Open House. We displayed on the 30' x 100' main area in front of the main museum building (the choicest spot on the grounds). The Museum's "Open House" event is its biggest event of the year (and arguably the biggest car show of the year, every year), during which not only is the Museum collection open, but the LeMay family graciously opens up their private estate with 500+ more super-rare cars, and shuttles folks between locations in vintage double-decker buses. Last year, almost 10,000 people came from all corners of the world to attend the Open House.
On view in our Car Show was Bill Brown's Black-on-Black Pursuit Special and other Mad Max vehicles & unmodified Aussie Cars, as well as KITT, Christine (film used), and so much more. We also premiered a freshly-built XA Bat Car.
Vernon Wells "WEZ" was available to fans at the Mad Max vehicle display. He was signing autographs & merchandise, talking with fans, etc.Check out www.lemaymuseum.org for details.
TANKER CRUISE (5:30 pm - 6:30pm)
The TANKER CRUISE preceded the Drive-In Double Feature and lasted approximately 35 to 50 minutes and covered approximately 26 to 28 miles. The Tanker Cruise traveled North / Northeast up Highway 512 & Highway 167 and terminated in the Valley 6 Outdoor Cinema Drive-In's parking lot.
Vernon Wells "WEZ" was also on hand during this portion of the event. He rode in Bill Brown's Black-on-Black. Western Cascade Trucking provided a Tanker and Big Rig for this portion and led the armada of vehicles to the Drive-In. Our convoy was not escorted by Gyrocopters as planned, because of the rains preceding the run.FILM SCREENINGS (Magic Hour - 1:00am)
Valley 6 Drive-In Cinema dedicated one of their 6 Drive-In Theatres for Roadwar Northwest. This was most likely the first time EVER in the USA that you could roll up to a theatre and see MM 1 & 2 from the driver's seat of your very own replica vehicle!! This was also possibly the first time EVER that the Australian versions of both Mad Max and The Road Warrior were shown on the big screen in the US, and certainly the first to be both featured at a Drive-In theatre!!
Dusk: A Mad Max Double-Feature consisting of the screening of 2 movies in the series: Mad Max & Mad Max II "The Road Warrior." There was a 30 min or so intermission in between, during which Vern left for his hotel (before the screening of The Road Warrior) but not without getting on the theatre's microphone and giving us a farewell.
August 26: Sunday Lunch Wrap-up
A casual post-event Lunch was held at the 410 Cafe.
